ما هو Present Continuous؟
المضارع المستمر يُستخدم للتحدث عن الأحداث التي تحدث الآن أو حول الوقت الحالي، أو للتخطيط المستقبلي القريب. شكله: Subject + am/is/are + verb+ing.

- I am reading a book now. → أنا أقرأ كتاب الآن.
- She is watching TV at the moment. → هي تشاهد التلفاز الآن.
- They are playing football in the garden. → هم يلعبون كرة القدم في الحديقة.
Present Continuous: Uses and Examples
The present continuous tense is used to describe actions happening at or around the moment of speaking, temporary situations, ongoing changes, repeated short-term events, and confirmed future plans. It is one of the most practical tenses in English for daily conversation and formal writing.
1. Actions in progress right now
We use the present continuous to indicate actions that are taking place at this exact moment.
- A: When will dinner be ready?
B: I’m preparing it now, so it’ll be ready soon. - She’s pressing the button, but nothing happens.
- They are watching a documentary at the moment.
2. Temporary situations
Temporary situations or conditions that are true for a limited period are expressed using the present continuous.
- Her mother is staying with her temporarily after leaving the hospital.
- Who is taking care of the children while you’re here?
- He is living in London for a few weeks for work.
3. Repeated short-term actions
Sometimes the present continuous describes repeated actions that are temporary, often with a limited time frame.
- I’m cutting down on coffee these days.
- She is working extra hours in London this month.
- We are meeting more frequently this week than usual.
4. Gradual changes
The present continuous can describe situations that are slowly changing over time.
- They are constructing a new stand at the stadium.
- Maria’s health is improving steadily, and doctors expect full recovery.
- Recent reports suggest that the economy is slowly recovering.
5. Regular but unplanned or annoying events
When actions happen often, unexpectedly, or annoyingly, we use the present continuous with words such as always, constantly, continually.
- My wife is always rearranging things; I like to keep everything as it is.
- I keep spilling coffee constantly.
- He is forever forgetting his keys at home.
6. Future plans and arrangements
The present continuous can describe future events when plans or arrangements have already been confirmed.
- We are moving to Cambridge in July.
- Sarah is not taking Rory to football training this evening. She hasn’t got the car.
- Aren’t you playing tennis this Saturday?
