📘 Grammar Explanation
We use the present perfect continuous to talk about:
- An activity that has just finished with a visible result.
- An activity that started in the past and is still continuing.
1️⃣ Recently Finished Activity
🟦 I’ve just been cleaning the car. – The car is clean and wet.
❄️ It’s been snowing. – The ground is covered with snow.
🛒 What have you been buying? – You can see the result.
2️⃣ Continuing Activity
📖 I’ve been reading your book – it’s great. (I’m still reading it)
🏡 He’s been living in the village since 1995. (He is still living there)
✍️ She has been writing her autobiography since 1987. (Still in progress)
3️⃣ Repeated or Ongoing Activities
🌴 I’ve been going to Spain on holiday every year since 1987.
💪 I haven’t been eating much lunch lately. I’ve been going to the gym at lunchtimes.
🎾 She’s been playing tennis on and off for three years.
4️⃣ Asking About Duration (How long…?)
A: How long have you been waiting for me?
B: About ten minutes. Not too long. (I’ve been waiting for about ten minutes)

ما هو Present Perfect Continuous؟
زمن المضارع التام المستمر (Present Perfect Continuous) يُستخدم للتعبير عن حدث بدأ في الماضي ومازال مستمر حتى الآن أو أثره مستمر في الحاضر. وفقاً لقواعد كامبريدج وأكسفورد، يُركز هذا الزمن على مدة الفعل واستمراره.
Structure & Cambridge Grammar
- Positive: Subject + have/has + been + verb-ing → I have been studying English for 2 hours.
- Negative: Subject + have/has + not + been + verb-ing → She has not been sleeping well.
- Question: Have/Has + Subject + been + verb-ing? → Have you been working hard?
- Use: للتعبير عن أفعال بدأت في الماضي ومازالت مستمرة أو تأثيرها ممتد في الحاضر (مثال: منذ، للتو، مؤخراً).

- I have been studying English for 2 hours. → أدرس الإنجليزية منذ ساعتين.
- She has been working all day. → تعمل طوال اليوم.
- They have been playing football since morning. → يلعبون كرة القدم منذ الصباح.

- Have you been waiting long? → هل كنت تنتظر طويلاً؟
- We have been living here for 5 years. → نعيش هنا منذ 5 سنوات.
- She has just been talking to him. → لقد تحدثت إليه للتو.
- They have been learning English recently. → يتعلمون الإنجليزية مؤخراً.
Cambridge & Oxford Notes
- Cambridge: Focuses on the duration and continuity of the action in Present Perfect Continuous tense.
- Oxford: Recommends using it with since / for / lately / recently / all day / just to indicate the duration or a specific moment.
- Avoid using it with state verbs like know, like, love.
